A Hydration Plan Starts with Bottles, Refill, and Breaks
- Name where bottles stay and where athletes refill before warm-up.
- Publish drink breaks in the practice plan instead of improvising them.

Build bottle access, refill, planned breaks, and symptom action—without body grading, team weigh-ins, or a universal formula.
A safe team system makes drinking possible and changes with conditions; athletes do not need to grade body signals, weigh in, or chase one fluid number.
Build the access-and-break routine, adjust it for conditions, and act on symptoms instead of self-grading.
Do this:
Try this week: Use every planned drink break this week and refill at the same spot each day.
Not true: you need a color chart to know if you drank enough. Use the schedule instead.
Start with the food category. Tap a package for one recognizable brand example, then swap within the category for access, tolerance, culture, budget, and allergens.

| Moment | System | Owner Check |
|---|---|---|
| Before | Bottle full; refill point open | Coach names access and conditions |
| Warm-up | First break is already planned | Athletes may ask sooner |
| Practice | Breaks adapt to heat and session | Coach or AT watches symptoms |
| After | Refill and recovery food available | Repeat problems go to qualified care |

A published break schedule takes the decision away from a tired athlete, which is the most reliable way to get fluid into a whole team.
Self-grading tools are noisy: vitamins, food dyes, how recently someone drank, and time of day all move the color, so a chart tells a coach little and invites forcing.
During unfamiliar heat, athletes sweat more and usually adapt over a couple of weeks; shorter sessions and more breaks bridge that window safely.
When to use this
Preseason and the first hot week, when staff need the bottle, refill, break, and emergency roles written down.
Finish before you close this page
Write the bottle owner, refill location, planned break, and adult who owns the heat or emergency decision.
Done looks like: All four details are confirmed before the session begins.
Where to go next
From one handout to a repeatable team system
Coach: Open the matching week, deliver the team talk, assign the staff owner, and verify the written action.
Family: Send the editable family message, share the handout, and keep the same next action visible in the family portal.
