- This is not about diets, weight, or perfect meal plans. It is about a workable school day and a safe route for concerns.
- Lunch is 10:50. Practice is 3:15. That gap is the whole problem, and the snack window at 3:00 is the fix. You choose the food.
- Families choose the food. Coaches make access workable. I never receive height, weight, or meal logs, and I do not want them.
- If I notice something, you hear it from me privately, and medical questions go to your pediatrician. I do not diagnose or prescribe.
Why it works
Parents make most of the food decisions for a fourteen-year-old, so one clear meeting moves more breakfasts and packed snacks than a season of reminders to athletes.
The lunch-to-practice gap drains the carbohydrate a workout runs on; publishing the exact times lets each household solve its own gap without a coach prescribing anything.
Saying the privacy boundary before questions keeps the meeting from drifting into weight talk or supplement debate, and it tells worried families the program is safe.
Don't say
- “A few of these kids could stand to drop some pounds.” One body comment here becomes body talk at every dinner table tonight.
- “Let us workshop that one, what do other parents think?” A red flag gets the referral path, not a room discussion.
- “I have heard good things about that supplement.” Supplement questions stay food-first up front; anything specific goes to the pediatrician.
Refer whenA parent who stays after to describe skipped meals, fear around food, dizziness, or a fast change in their runner: thank them, take the facts, and give them the referral contact and the pediatrician route that night. Do not workshop it, and do not carry it alone.
