Before your athlete buys a pre-workout, read this first
Dear [Team Name] Families, Winter is a common time for athletes to start asking about pre-workouts, energy drinks, and random supplements. That is usually not because they suddenly need a supplement stack. It is because fatigue, lifting, and social media hype all get louder at the same time. Our rule is simple: - food first - ask before buying - do not use products just because teammates or the internet say they work - if something is being used, there should be a clear reason behind it Most high school athletes do not need a complicated supplement plan. The bigger risk is using a product that is poorly regulated, unnecessarily strong, or covering up a more basic issue like low intake, poor sleep, dehydration, or untreated fatigue. Families help most by slowing the conversation down. Ask why the athlete thinks they need the product. Ask what problem they are trying to solve. Very often, the first answer should not be a new supplement at all. This week, we are pairing the message with the supplement checker so families can start from evidence and safety instead of hype. The goal is not fear. The goal is a better standard for what belongs in the athlete’s routine and what does not.
