If the athlete is dragging in midwinter, do not wait too long to ask why
Dear [Team Name] Families, Midwinter is often where fatigue becomes easy to excuse. The season is moving, school is heavy, sleep can drift, and athletes may look like they are "just tired." Sometimes that is true. Sometimes the pattern deserves more attention. This week, watch for: - fatigue that keeps repeating beyond normal hard-week tiredness - poor recovery after practices or meets - mood or motivation drifting down without a clear reason - ongoing flatness despite what should be manageable training Iron status is one question that may belong in the conversation, especially for athletes with a history of low ferritin, heavy training loads, menstruation, or repeated fatigue concerns. Families should also remember that winter fatigue is rarely about one thing. Sleep, total intake, hydration, low energy availability, illness, and school stress still belong in the picture too. The main point of this week is timing: ask better questions now instead of waiting until the season is almost over. We are pairing the email with the iron and athlete-report tools so the next step can be more concrete when needed.
