Holiday break does not need to wreck the routine
Dear [Team Name] Families, Holiday break usually changes everything at once: wake times, practice times, family meals, travel, and the amount of food sitting in front of the athlete all day. That does not mean the whole routine needs to disappear. For break week, keep three anchors in place: - keep breakfast in the day - keep one afternoon snack or mini-meal - know what the next normal meal is instead of waiting until the athlete is starving The goal is not to make break week rigid. The goal is to stop the swing from happening where the athlete skips structure all day, then eats chaotically late, and starts feeling guilty about food that should have just been part of a normal week. Holiday foods are not the problem. A missing routine usually is. Families help most by keeping a few anchors steady and using calm, normal language around food. If the athlete is still training through break, that structure matters even more. Fueling should not disappear just because school is not in session. This week, keep the message simple: enjoy the break, but do not let the routine fully vanish.
