Outdoor track starts now: plan for longer days and longer meets
Dear [Team Name] Families, Outdoor track changes the whole training environment. Days get longer, weather swings wider, meet days stretch out, and many athletes suddenly need more planning than they needed indoors. The first outdoor priorities are simple: - eat before practice instead of carrying lunch into a long gap - bring fluids earlier in the day - keep recovery food ready after hard sessions or meets - treat longer meet days like full-day events that need real food Outdoor season is where small misses stack up. Athletes skip the practice snack, show up underhydrated, and spend a six-hour meet trying to patch things together with whatever is available. Families can help most by expecting spring to need more logistics, not fewer. A full bag, a simple meal plan, and visible recovery support usually do more than any one fancy tip. We are also coaching a full range of event groups. That means not every athlete needs the exact same race-day timing, but every athlete still needs enough food and fluids to support what the day is asking. This week, the goal is to set a practical outdoor standard before the season gets busy.
